MCHENRY COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY KAYAK PADDLE: JUNE 26TH & July 16th

  • Miles Bar & Grill 7045 Epworth Road Garden Prairie, IL, 61038 United States (map)

The Trip:

Starting point 3pm

4506 Thorne Rd Marengo  (continue driving another block to the start of the bridge for offloading equipment.  This is the southeast corner of the bridge)  The shuttle kayakers should be back at Thorne by 3:15 or so, and we will be ready to launch around 3:30

Ending point to meet shuttle

Miles Bar & Grill

7045 Epworth Rd Garden Prairie

We have permission to paddle the Kish River from Thorne Rd to the campsite on Epworth Rd.  It is an ideal 2.5 - 3 hour paddle.  The ending site is private, part of the campground.  By parking at Miles Bar & Grill our cars are close to our landing site.  After paddling we walk to our cars, drive into the Holiday Acres Campground and load up our equipment.  Some paddlers can then choose to enjoy a drink or meal at Miles.

If you have paid for a shuttle, park your car at Miles in Garden Prairie, then shuttle back to Thorne to meet your rental kayak.  If you own your own kayak, you may drop it at Thorne, then park at Miles and pay for the shuttle back.  If you own your own kayak and have a buddy to shuttle with, drop off all equipment on Thorne Rd, drive both cars back to Miles, leave 1, then park the other off the bridge along Thorne.  No shuttle charge.

What to bring:
Water shoes, plastic bottled water, light snacks, river appropriate clothing, sunglasses, watertight case for electronics and keys (optional)
